Konate was forced to leave Sunday’s friendly defeat by Strasbourg at Anfield with a knee injury. He was evaluated a few times after taking a blow to the knee and eventually limped off 12 minutes into the second half. According to Injury Mechanisms, there was contact to the inner side of Konate’s right knee, causing it to slightly hyperextend.
This can cause a variety of injuries. The best case scenario is a bruise that may cause some swelling and pain over the next few days, but no long-term concerns. The worst case scenario is LCL damage (the ligament that runs along the outside of the knee), but I didn’t see enough contact to leave me concerned that the ligament is torn.
When Klopp was asked about the injury, he said “We don’t know exactly yet on (Konate), but it doesn’t look too concerning so I hope we caught it in the right moment.”
