Aston Villa is in trouble after losing Diego Carlos. The Brazilian centre-back ruptured his left Achilles tendon in their victory over Everton on Sunday and will undergo surgery. This is likely to end his season as the recovery time is typically 9-12 months. Some player can return closer to six months, but it isn’t common and performance isn’t at the pre-injury level right away.
Carlos was Aston Villa’s most expensive signing this summer, and they were hoping that he could help to solidify their defense. Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa and Calum Chambers the only fit centre-backs ahead of Villa’s trip to Selhurst Park on Saturday. They will likely look to add another defender before the transfer window closes.
This is a really cool video showing how the procedure works to repair a torn Achilles tendon.
