Anthony Martial picked up a hamstring injury recently and won’t be available this weekend. Manchester United is set to open the season against Brighton & Hove Albion
Martial is back after spending the second half of last season on loan to Sevilla, although he didn’t make much of an impact while away from Old Tratford. He has looked solid throughout the preseason, but this setback will have to put his season debut on hold.
Initial testing indicates this is a mild (grade 1) hamstring strain, which comes with a two week Optimal Recovery Time, according to the Inside Injuries algorithm. Martial could be back next weekend, but his risk of re-injury would remain High. Hamstring injuries, even the mild ones, are highly recurrent.
Manchester United Team Health Score: 6.38
Brighton & Hove Albion Team Health Score: 6.76
United may be heavily favored in this one, but Brighton has a very slight health edge. I’m still expecting MUFC to win this one as Brighton’s advantage is minimal.
